The Nightmare and the Ghost of a Flea, 2024

Performance, Sound Installation

The Nightmare and the Ghost of a Flea is a new performance that consists of a sound composition, a video work, a script and a choreography within an installation. In the performance we meet one performer, a dream worker, who works at a fictional call center for dreams and nightmares. Taking place in the midst of video projections and a sound installation, the performance builds further on the concept album "Clones" (2022) in which several voices (modulated, pitched and doubled) speak through one body. In "Clones" topics such as dreaming as transformation in a fictional apocalyptic world are explored. The contribution to "Lavender, hibernation and Neon will be a partial thematic continuation of this, but above all it's a site-specific performance that takes the vault/crypt into consideration both from a historical and acoustic perspective.

About Matilda Tjäder

Matilda Tjäder is an artist building fictional worlds via text, sound, performance and moving image. In her work she develops experimental environments where the familiar interfaces with the unknown, the individual with the collective, and memories with the absence of sentience. By plugging into existing infrastructures she takes great pleasure in revising their invisible protocols and designs via storytelling, ambient installations and absurd scenarios. She is a resident at Retreat Radio with the monthly broadcast “Scaling” and is the founder of the eponymous concert-series taking place across locations in Malmö.
